CSI Survey results
In January, EMT received the results of the CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index) survey carried out towards the end of 2009. The survey, which included 7512 interviews, reflected an average store of 7.30 for the services offered by EMT. This is the best score obtained by the company since 2001.
The aspects that were most appreciated by those interviewed included the extension of the electronic information panels, the use of environmentally-friendly fuel, the implementation of the Mobilis System and the quality certificate granted to 25 of the company’s routes by AENOR (UNE-EN 13816 standard).
Information Panels
At the end of 2010, EMT completed the installation of 272 electronic information panels in bus shelters and, for the first time, bus stops. The latter enable information to be downloaded via Bluetooth and audio devices.
Of these panels, 147 bus shelters and 21 bus stops incorporate the cyberpass system, which facilitates oral information about the arrival times of buses to people with visual impairment.
Farewell to the cardboard bus pass
January 31 saw the withdrawal of the magnetic format of EMT Valencia’s star product: the Bonobús bus pass. On the same day, the ticket validation machines were also withdrawn, leaving only the magnetic machines installed in the company’s buses following the introduction of the Mobilis system.

EMT information point
On 1 February, EMT Valencia installed a Citizen Information Point in Metrovalencia’s ‘Colón’ station. The functions of this new office include the provision of maps and information on routes, lines, schedules and tickets/passes, card reading, the replacement of Mobilis cards, when necessary, the collection and processing of suggestions and the answering of calls. The office has a Deferred Attention System, which allows calls to be returned to customers who leave their number when the lines are busy. During the presentation, Alfonso Novo stated that "The Customer Service Office (CSO) takes to the streets to feel and hear the feelings of passengers in all matters concerning their travel needs throughout the city".

Hybrid bus technical day
On May 26, EMT Valencia, in conjunction with STA, organized a Technical Seminar under the title "Hybrid Buses: from the internal combustion engine to the electric motor’. Different aspects related to energy efficiency, and in particular their application to the public transport sector, where discussed during the day.
At the beginning of the workshop, which was attended by the Valencia Regional Government’s general manager of Transport and Logistics, Vicente Dómine, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade’s Head of Automation, Julio de Juan, and the Chairmen of STA, Rafael Boronat, and EMT Valencia, Alfonso Novo, respectively, the latter underlined “the need to join forces and to be efficient, given that as a public transport company we must lead the way in the use of new technologies and fuels”.
Presentation and implementation of 5 Iveco Citelis CNG Buses
On May 27, 2010, five new CNG-powered Irisbus Iveco Citelis buses with Castrosua bodywork entered into service. This is the first time that this model has been put into service in
They have a capacity for 70 standing passengers, 22 seated passengers (4 of which are reserved for seniors, adults with babies or pregnant women), 1 space for people with reduced mobility (PMR) and the driver's compartment.
With the acquisition of these units, EMT Valencia is facing the future of the city with a clear commitment to renewing its urban bus fleet, placing all its capacity into meeting the demands of society and focusing on minimizing emissions.
The five new vehicles, which are to enter service on the ‘Interior’ 5 route, were sponsored by the Turia Children’s Education Centre, the Bambini Children’s Education Centre, Barri del Carme Secondary School, Gran Asociación-Colegio and El Soldadito Musical Children’s School.

A workshop for exchanging experiences
Within the framework of the Valencia Region Innovation Club, a workshop was held on the exchange of experiences between the Club’s associated companies. EMT outlined the new techniques and applications implemented in relation to travel, information and work, such as the incorporation of the Móbilis system and the transfer from “static” to “dynamic and customized” information through the application of new technologies (Operation Support System (OSS) and mobile telephone communications).
Fórmula 1
The transfer of the F-1 Grand Prix from August to June led to an increase in certain of the routes that form part of the service designed for the event, especially those that run near to the Valencia Street Circuit; routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 30, 35 and 95.
In addition to providing passengers with on-board information via ‘Canal Bussi’ and the EMT Valencia web, the company published pocket brochures containing relevant information (origin-destination, timetables, access gates and parking spaces). Following the conclusion of the event, figures showed that more than 100,000 people used EMT’s services to travel to the circuit.

New ticket dispensers (UTC)
As part of the policy centred on the technological improvement of EMT’s fleet as a means of providing a high quality service, the Board approved an investment of over one million euros for the replacement and upgrading of the ticket machines commonly known as UTC (Urban Transport Control Unit).
This, 480 new machines were installed in the EMT bus fleet throughout the month.
The advantages include the installation of WiFi/Bluetooth systems which enable the provision of information on routes, schedules, shifts, convoys and other aspects that may be of interest to EMT users.

The BONOBÚS PLUS is born
August was witness to the most important of the actions undertaken by EMT during 2011: the launch of the BONOBÚS PLUS bus pass. This new pass takes the place of the traditional 10-journey Bonobús and offers the possibility of transferring between as many buses as the user requires within a maximum period of 60 minutes in exchange for a single payment.
BONOBÚS PLUS has been introduced to satisfy the requirements of EMT’s customers as expressed via the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) survey, which revealed the desire for a CHANGE in EMT’s tariff rate in order to resolve and optimize the mobility of citizens whilst favouring the possibility to transfer between buses using the tickets and passes offered, and especially the most popular: the Bonobús bus pass. The BONOBÚS PLUS offers more possibilities, more time and more savings, adding a plus to the traditional Bonobús pass. With the BONOBÚS PLUS everything is closer, more comfortable, faster and cheaper.

Advantage: allows the user to use as many buses as necessary in 1 HOUR for a SINGLE PAYMENT.

New Aenor Quality Certification
10 more EMT routes have been certified by AENOR in accordance with the UNE-EN 13816 European standard: 4, 8, 16, 71, 72, 79, 80, N9, N89 and N90. 35 of EMT Valencia’s 63 routes are now covered by quality certificates. The 58 million travellers (64% of users) that use the certified routes will benefit from this certification.
The 13816 standard requires a continuous improvement of the quality and service offered to users in accordance with eight basic criteria: Accessibility, Information, Regularity and Punctuality, Service Provided, Customer Service, Comfort, Safety and Environmental Impact.
All this effort invested in adaptation is reflected in a fleet of modern, comfortable, safe, accessible and, especially, environmentally-friendly buses which duly comply with the timetables and frequencies indicated in the city’s bus stops, offering the most complete and updated information and the best customer service.

Presentation and commissioning of 20 new buses
September 23 2010 was the first day on which 20 new EMT buses circulated through the streets of
The Mercedes Cítaro 0-530 buses represent a new generation and concept of urban bus. Their engines run on biodiesel and comply with the Euro V standard by using the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system, which considerably reduces the emissions of contaminating particles. They have 97-passenger capacity (23 seating, 71 standing, 2 for PRM and 1 driver compartment).
The Scania N230 buses, which are also biodiesel-powered, incorporate EEV (Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle) engines. Using the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) method, they minimize environmental impact. They have 94-passenger capacity (25 seating, 66 standing, 2 for PRM and 1 for the driver).
Cleaner fuels: Biodiesel B20
On September 29, Rita Barberá, Mayoress of Valencia, announced that "the bus fleet will switch from using Biodiesel B10 to using B20 biodiesel, a fact which will further reduce environmental damage as some 2,300 tons less of CO2 will be emitted into the atmosphere". This new biofuel, which is an alternative to fossil fuels, is obtained from renewable raw materials and is included in the European sustainable mobility strategy.

Strikes at EMT
Starting on October 4, EMT workers will hold strikes of 1 and 2 hours each Monday and Thursday until the end of the year as a means of pressure to support a variety of claims.

Inauguration of ‘LA FE ’ Hospital and ‘JOAQUIN SOROLLA’ train station
The inauguration of the new ‘La Fe’ hospital and the RENFE ‘Joaquín Sorolla’ high-speed train station has led EMT to upgrade its network of routes in order to facilitate the movement of Valencian residents to and from these new installations. Specifically, the changes will mainly benefited the new hospital’s 7000 workers and passengers on the new AVE high-speed train connection.
4 routes were changed in order to provide this new service: 8, 18, 64 and N7. According to Alfonso Novo, Chairman of EMT, the choice of routes was based on their "proximity to the new location of the hospital", and the possibility to "access from anywhere in the city by means of the various bus stops and the 4 routes’ connections with all the company’s other routes, all the more significant since the introduction of the free transfer service that has been made possible through the Bonobús Plus bus pass".

Collaboration between EMT-ONCE-IMSERSO
The last quarter of 2010 saw the implementation of the Collaboration Agreement signed between Valencia City Council, EMT and the ONCE Foundation for cooperation and the social integration of persons with disabilities. The agreement contemplates the development of a Boarding Information System for the Municipal Transport Fleet with assistance for people with reduced mobility. The items to be installed include a communication system offering content, language and visual and audio devices especially adapted for urban bus users. The project will be developed throughout 2011.
Christmas drawing contest
8-year old Brian Valiente Ródenas won the first prize in the Christmas Drawing Contest organized by EMT Valencia. His drawing was used by EMT and the Traffic and Transport Delegation to illustrate the Christmas greeting sent to their respective employees and suppliers. During the award ceremony, EMT Chairman Alfonso Novo said "the contribution made by these children through their drawings is very significant, as they participate from a very early age in the work carried out by their parents, helping to transmit to the rest of society the importance and benefits of using public transport for getting from one place to another in the city without using a car".
Expojove 2010
As in previous years, EMT participated in Expojove. During this edition, the stand was presented under the slogan ‘Es Nadal al carrer’. Divided into different leisure areas, the stand contained a recreation of a mountain village at Christmas, enabling visitors to enjoy typical Christmas traditions.
Under the slogan ‘Pedestrians, drivers and cyclists, together in harmony’, EMT programmed a series of activities including a drawing workshop aimed at promoting reconciliation, respect and traffic education among the different groups that use public roads.
The stand also hosted a bus with a reproduction of the winning drawing from the ‘European car-free day’ by Nadia Cifre García and titled ‘Move Intelligently and Live Better’’.
